When a family, a couple, or parents are looking for therapy, they often do so because they lack clarity around the reasons why things do not work as they want them to. While psychotherapy always includes some assessment by the counselor, whether it’s non-structured assessment and basic intake questionnaire, or/and by using structured tools, the family members might also benefit from exploring self-assessment tools outside of the therapy office. Many of these quizzes and questionnaires can be found online, and the majority of them is free. Below are five examples of useful online self-assessment tests for families, couples, and individuals who want to understand themselves better in the context of a relationship.
1. RELATE
RELATE is a questionnaire that explores marital satisfaction by asking 276 questions in four major areas: personality/values, family and friend support, communication skills, and upbringing/background. It can be taken with or without a participating partner, but it is recommended that both partners take the questionnaire. This online test takes about one hour to complete and costs $20.
MAQ is a free relationship attachment styles test. By discovering their attachment style, the person can then get an insight into the way it plays out as habitual patterns across their relationships. The test can provide information about subjects such as commitment issues, amount of perceived security in relationships, tendency to be too clingy, or be overly attached. It assesses secure attachment tendencies and avoidant tendencies, as well as the anxious-ambivalent attachment style. When both partners take the test, they can get insight into both of their attachment styles.
The Sustainable Marriage Quiz is a free, short and simple quiz to test the satisfaction from the romantic relationship. It consists of 10 questions and takes two minutes to complete. The Sustainable Marriage Quiz focuses on the idea that the more one feels they grow as a person within their romantic relationship, the more satisfied and committed they will be with their partner.
Just like the previous quiz, the Parenting Style Quiz is a free online test. It takes only four minutes to complete and is designed to provide insight for the parent about their specific parenting style.
This quiz is a free online test that was designed to provide insight into the strength of a long-term monogamous relationship or marriage. It usually takes about fives minutes to complete.
